The Iranian Institute of Philosophy (IRIP) was established by Prof. Hossein Nasr in 1974 with the aim to promote and safeguard the philosophical and intellectual heritage of Iran, both in the pre-Islamic and post-Islamic era.

The activities of the Institute can be regarded as a turning point in the contemporary history of philosophy in Iran.

After the Islamic Revolution in 1979, a new chapter began in the history of IRIP activities. The activities of IRIP are now defined in six fields, each with a separate manager. Each of these groups has its own experts' staff.
